Pokémon Spotlight Hour will feature a different Pokémon and a special bonus for one hour at 6:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday during the month of October. Galarian Slowpoke Spotlight Hour takes place on October 8th, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm local time, with a bonus of 2x XP for evolving Pokémon.

Slowpoke (Galarian)

This Spotlight Hour is the second October 2024 Pokémon spotlight. It’s especially exciting as shiny Galarian Slowpoke is available! It is also a great time to evolve any trash ‘mon in your storage before you transfer them.

Trainers who plan to participate should be prepared with a Mega Pokémon to maximise candy gains per Galarian Slowpoke caught. Here’s everything you need to know!

Bonuses

  • You will get 2x XP for Evolving Pokémon

  • Shiny Galarian Slowpoke and its evolutions are available in Pokémon GO

Note on XP Bonus

If you do not want to catch the featured Pokémon or do not have enough Galarian Slowpoke candy saved, you can make use of the 2x Evolution XP bonus by evolving any saved Scatterbug, or opening a Mystery Box or Coin Bag and evolving those!

This is a great opportunity to evolve any Pokémon caught during the Galarian Expedition event. The old-school grinders will remember the days of saving Pidgey and other low-cost evolutions for this sort of spotlight hour, and it can be a good way to grind XP with a lucky egg on.

Most of the wild spawns featured during the vent have cheap evolutions at 25 candy. Keep any spare Nidoran, Abra, Magnemite, Spheal, Aron, Beldum and Shinx to evolve during this event!

Mega Pokémon that boost Galarian Slowpoke

The following Pokémon will grant you extra bonuses when catching Galarian Slowpoke if they are Mega/Primal evolved.

  • Alakazam (Mega)

  • Slowbro (Mega)

  • Gardevoir (Mega)

  • Medicham (Mega)

  • Latias (Mega)

  • Latios (Mega)

  • Rayquaza (Mega)

A Note on Mega Catch Bonus

While a Pokémon is Mega-Evolved, additional XP and Candy is granted when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it, or for any raid boss caught. These do not stack with each other. Additionally, High and Max Level Mega-Evolved Pokémon grant an increased chance to obtain Candy XL when catching a Pokémon that shares a type with it.

Is it worth evolving Galarian Slowpoke?

PVP

  • Get a good Galarian Slowking for Great League, as it’s a unique standout in certain Limited metas (Psychic Cup especially).

  • Get a Galarian Slowbro for Ultra League. A few notches below Kanto Slowbro in Ultra, so if you have enough XLs to build only one, in my mind, go with Kanto. If you have enough XLs for two, then I’d go for G-Bro.

  • Galarian Slowbro in Great League has had some use in the past.

  • Very last priority, in my mind, is Galarian Slowking in Ultra League. Sure, spring for one if you can, but I don’t see this raising its stock much at all.
