PokéStop Showcases have undergone a significant overhaul that makes them more equitable for all type-based Showcases.
The new Normal-type PokéStop Showcases, which will run through Wednesday, September 18, 2024, will mark the launch of these new alterations.
In the past, species that are naturally taller than others would always win when competing in a type-based showcase. For instance, due to its enormous size compared to all other Flying kinds, a Celesteela was required to compete successfully in prior Flying type Showcases. Not even XXL Flying type Pokémon could match a Celesteela’s abilities.
Instead, with the new update, the relative size of each species inside its own species will be used to assign a score. It no longer matters how big the Pokémon is overall. This implies that any Pokémon that is XXL can now compete and possibly win!
This implies that you now have a legitimate motivation to hang onto XXL Pokémon of all species rather than only the biggest specimens of that specific typing in the hopes of winning a Showcase. Since a XXL Pidgey is evaluated against its own species rather than against all Pokémon of that typing, it has the potential to defeat a Celesteela in a Flying type showcase. If Regigigas isn’t a XXL, they won’t be the dominant species in the Normal type Showcase anymore; XXL Skitty can easily defeat a non-XXL Regigigas!
