Pokémon Sleep is a mobile app game that allows users to track their sleep, whilst researching different types of Pokémon for their Sleep Pokédex, and growing a Snorlax which is assigned to you each week.

Each Pokémon has their own skills, and berries/ingredients that they can collect, as well as natures that impact on those skills. Which Pokémon are the best, is of course subject to personal opinion, but here are some Pokémon we can highly recommend building to add to your teams.

Early Games Favourites

Raichu

Raichu is a berry collecting BEAST in Pokémon Sleep, especially for new trainers. Evolving your Pokémon in Sleep really boosts their abilities, and unlike a lot of other Pokémon in Sleep, to evolve Pikachu to Raichu, there is no level cap. You ‘only’ need 80 Pikachu Candy and a Thunder Stone.

Raichu

Raichu collects Grepa Berries which are a prominent berry type for Snorlax on Greengrass Isle. It also has a really high speed stat for their berry/ingredient collecting, and berries in particular are essential to building up your Snorlax as quickly as possible. As you level up Raichu it can collect not only Fancy Tomatoes which feature in a lot of recipes, but also Fancy Eggs and Warming Ginger.

Raichu is an absolute must have in the early game!

Butterfree

Butterfree is a fantastic team member for many of the same reasons as Raichu, it collects a lot of berries, and very quickly! Butterfree has a low evolution level too, which makes it easier to obtain. Caterpie needs to be level 5 and use 40 Caterpie Candy to evolve into Metapod, and then Metapod needs to be level 8, and use 80 Caterpie Candy to evolve into Butterfree.

Butterfree

Butterfree will gather Lum Berry and Honey, and as they level up also can collect Snoozy Tomato and Greengrass Soybeans. Their main skill is that they can get you 6 ingredients chosen at random, and you can level this up too, a fantastic skill! This makes them a Pokémon that is not only a great berry collector, but also a great ingredient collector.

This speed of berry collecting makes them an essential addition to your team, especially for beginners!

Ingredient Collectors

All three of the Kanto first partner Pokémon, or starter Pokémon, are good choices for your teams, because of their ingredient collecting abilities. They can collect 2 ingredients at a time, and have the skill Ingredient Magnet S Skill, which further boosts their ingredient collecting. They can take some time to evolve as they have higher levels for their final evolutions

The Squirtle family will find you Oran Berry, Moomoo Milk, Soothing Cacao and Bean Sausage. Oran Berry are one of Snorlax’s favourite berry on Cyan Beach.

Gengar

Gengar is another Pokémon with a unique berry type, and a pretty quick speed for collecting. While none of the currently available Islands have it as a set Berry for Snorlax’s favourite, it can be a favourite on Greengrass Isle. As more islands are researched, it may become in demand. Gengar can also collect Fiery Herb, Tasty Mushroom, and Pure Oil. Tasty Mushroom is a rarer ingredient option, and one that gives more energy to Snorlax, so worth unlocking.

Gengar does have a very high level for their initial evolution to Haunter at a whopping level 19, and requires a Linking Cord to become Gengar. The Linking Cord is only available to buy via your sleep points, but is a reward for completing certain tasks and levelling up friendship, so you can obtain them for free.

Wigglytuff, Sylveon and Gardevoir are very similar Pokémon, that were quite overlooked initially with Pokémon Sleep, but players have quickly realised have an amazing skill. The skill Energy for Everyone restores 5 energy to every Pokémon on your team!

If you can get a Wigglytuff, Sylveon or Gardevoir that has a main skill chance up, along with decent main skill chance subskills, it is well worth investing in. Because this skill can boost your whole team’s energy levels, it means you can collect ingredients and berries quicker, for longer.

Gardevoir collects Mago Berry, one of the choices for Lapis Lakeside, along with Fancy Apple, Greengrass Corn and Large Leeks. Of the three Pokémon that can boost your teams energy, it is the hardest to obtain, due to Ralts only appearing at Lapis Lakeside which is the hardest of all research areas at present.

The way Pokémon gather berries and ingredients is impacted by their energy, so keeping than energy higher means they will gather much more for you all day long, rather than be drained and slow by the end of the day.

Berry Beasts

Getting Berry focused Pokémon with fantastic subskills is a great way to grind in Pokémon Sleep. There are some standouts, including the Johto starters, and Walrein.

In terms of the Johto starters, Meganium collects Durin Berries, needed for Lapis Lakeside, Feraligatr collects Oran Berries, needed for Cyan Beach, and Typhlosion collects Leppa Berries, needed for Taupe Hollow. With each having an island guaranteed to need their berry, they are very worthwhile investments.

It can be hard work to evolve to this trio, so try to hold off until you have a Pokémon with fairly optimal Sub Skills and Nature. Look for Pokémon with Speed of Help up as a nature, and other helping speed based sub skills, and ideally Berry Finding S.

Walrein can be key to doing well on Snowdrop Tundra, as it is both a berry collecting Pokémon, and good for ingredients thanks to it’s main skill, Ingredient Magnet S.

Walrein collects Rawst Berries, one of the fixed berry choices on Snowdrop Tundra, and is one of only three Ice type Pokémon families available in Sleep currently. It can collect Pure Oil, Warming Ginger, and Bean Sausage as standard, but thanks to that Ingredient Gathering S Main Skill, it can also collect any ingredient you currently have unlocked when triggering the skill.

Walrein

As you can see from their evolution conditions, Walrein is a grind! It doesn’t evolve into Sealeo until Level 24, making it one of the harder Pokémon to evolve in game. Be sure to use your candies wisely, and wait to evolve a Spheal that is worthwhile, with a Nature that prioritises speed, and sub skills that boost speed, or even their main skill chance.

Notable Mentions for Skills

Some Pokémon don’t have a focus on berries or ingredients, but instead skills. Some skills are more valuable than others, and with the recent ‘skill banking’ introduced, they are more viable than ever. ‘Skill banking’ means that a skill focused Pokémon (identified on their Pokémon information page as ‘Skill’ in the top right corner), can actually bank two uses of the Main Skill when you click on them. The maximum level for Charge Strength S was also raided to Level 7, which means for a fixed Charge Strength S you will increase Snorlax’s Strength by 3,002 per skill activation. For a ranged Charge Strength S you will see increases between 1,501 to 6,004.

Most notably, Pokémon with Main Skills of Charge Strength S can give you a lot of energy once they are levelled up with Main Skill Seeds. Prioritise Pokémon with Main Skill Chance Up natures, along with Skill Trigger and Skill Level Up in their sub skills.

These Pokémon can be a grind to make work for your team, but can provide amazing boosts, especially if you are struggling for certain Berry types!
